STAKES, CHURCH ORGANIZATION (Teachings of Joseph Smith)

Saints Must Gather to Stakes or Be Scattered — Willard Richards (Between circa June 26 and circa August 4, 1839)

There will be here & there a stake &c. For the gathering of the Saints Some may have cried peace, but the Saints & the world will have little peace from henceforth. Let this not hinder us from going to the Stakes, for God has told us to flee not dallying, or we shall be scattered, one here, another there. There your children shall be blessed & you in the midst of friends where you may be blessed. &c The Gospel net gathers of every kind.

Discourse, between circa 26 June and circa 4 August 1839–A, as Reported by Willard Richards, p. 69, The Joseph Smith Papers.
