Live to Build Zion — Times & Seasons (October 4, 1840)
In conclusion we would say. Brethren and Sisters be faithful, be diligent, contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints—let every man, woman and child realize the importance of the work, and act as if its success depended on their individual exertion alone, let them feel an interest in it, and then consider they live in a day, the contemplation of which animated the bosom of Kings, Prophets and Righteous men, thousands of years ago the prospect of which inspired their sweetest notes and most exalted lays’ and caused them to break out in such rapturous strains as are recorded in the scriptures; and by and by, we shall have to exclaim in the language of Inspiration,
“The Lord has brought again Zion—
The Lord hath redeemed his people, Israel.”

Thoughts on Temporal Welfare of Saints in Zion — Willard Richards (April 13, 1843)

In the 1st place. where a crowd is flocking from all parts of the world of diffrt minds; religion; &c, there will be some who do not live up to the Commandments. there will be— & designing characters, who would turn you aside & lead you astray.— specluators who would get away your property. therefore it is necessary we should have an order here, & when emigrants arrive to instruct. them concerning these things.
If the heads of the church have laid the foundations of this place, & have had the trouble of doing what has been done— are they not better qualifid to tell you how to lay out your money & than those who have had no interest— &c
Some start on the revelations to come here. & get turned away & loose all, & then come, and enter their complaints, to us when it is too late to do any thing for them
the object of this meeting is to tell you these things & then if you will pursue the same course you must bear the consequence.
