Remission of Sins by Baptism Not to Be Preached to Murderers — William Clayton (May 16, 1841)

The doctrine of eternal judgment Acts 2-41 Peter preached repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, &c; but in Acts 3-19 he says “Repent and be converted that you sins may be blotted out when the time of redemption shall come and he shall send Jesus,” &c. Remission of sins by baptism was not to be preached to murderers. All the priests in Christendom might pray for a murderer on the scaffold forever, but could not avail so much as a gnat towards their forgiveness. There is no forgiveness for murderers. They will have to wait until the time of redemption shall come and that in hell. Peter had the keys of eternal judgment and he saw David in hell and knew for what reason, and that David would have to remain there until the resurrection at the coming of Christ.

Discourse, 16 May 1841, as Reported by William Clayton, pp. 9-10, The Joseph Smith Papers.

Should Not Procrastinate Repentance — Wilford Woodruff (March 20, 1842)

(We should take warning & not wait for the deathbed to repent) As we se[e] the infant taken away by death, so may the youth & middle aged as well as the infant suddenly be called into <a great> eternity, Let this then proove as a warning to all not to procrastinate repentance or wait till a death bed, for it is the will of God that man should repent & serve him in health & in the strength & power of his mind in order to secure his blessings & not wait untill he is called to die.

Current Generation & Wordly Nations Subject to Rule of Old Pharaoh If They Do Not Repent — The Wasp (June 5, 1842)

The Prophet, Joseph Smith, delivered a powerful discourse, last Sabbath, to an attentive audience of about 8000, in this city. The subject matter was drawn from the 32nd and 33rd chapters of Ezekiel, wherein it was shown the Old Pharaoh was comforted, and greatly rejoiced, that he was honored as a kind of King Devil over those uncircumcised nations, that go down to hell for rejecting the word of the Lord, withstanding his mighty miracles, and fighting the saints:— The whole exhibited as a pattern to this generation, and the nations now rolling in splendor over the globe, if they do not repent, that they shall go down to the pit also, and be rejoiced over, and ruled over by Old Pharoah, King Devil of mobocrats, miracle rejecters, saint killers, hypocritical priests, and all other fit subjects to fester in their own infamy.

Discourse, 5 June 1842, as Published in Wasp, p. 2, The Joseph Smith Papers.

Cannot Repent After Sinning Against the Holy Ghost & Shedding Innocent Blood — Franklin D. Richards (March 10, 1844)

there are two sins agains which this power does not secure or prevail they are “The sin against the Holy Ghost” And “shedding of innocent Blood” which is equivelant to “crucifying the Son of God afresh & putting him to an open shame”
Those who do these it is impossible to renew unto repentance for they are delivered to the buffettings of satan untill the day of redemptions

Discourse, 10 March 1844, as Reported by Franklin D. Richards, pp. 33-34, The Joseph Smith Papers.

Provision of Salvation Made for Every Person Who Repents Unless He Commits Unpardonable Sin (April 7, 1844)

Wilford Woodruff

God has made provision for evry spirit in the eternal world, and the spirits of our friends should be searched out & saved, Any man that has a friend in eternity can save him if he has not committed the unpardonable sin, He cannot be damned through all eternity, their is a possibility for his escape in a little time, If a man has knowledge he can be saved, if he has been guilty of great sins he is punished for it, when he consents to obey the gospel whether Alive or dead, he is saved, his own mind damns him I have no fear of hell fire that dont exhist, No man can commit the unpardonable sin, untill He receives the Holy Ghost
