Evils Consequences from Hasty/Inaccurate Judgement and Decisions — History of the Church (May 6, 1838)

I preached to the saints, setting forth the evils that existed and would exist by reason of hasty Judgment, or decisions upon any subject given by any people,— or in judging before they had heard both sides of the question.

Saints Will Suffer Alongside Wicked & Fall Prey to Disease, Pestilence, Etc., Though Many Will Be Saved — James Mulholland (September 29, 1839)

Also that it is a false idea that the saints will escape all the judgements whilst the wicked suffer— for all flesh is subject to suffer— and “the righteous shall hardly escape” still many of the saints will escape— for the just shall live by faith— yet many of the righteous shall fall a prey to disease to pestilence &c by reason of the weakness of the flesh and yet be saved in the kingdom of God So that it is an unhallowed principle to say that such and such have transgressed because they have been preyed upon by disease or death for all flesh is subject to death and the Saviour has said, “Judge not “lest ye be judged”.

Discourse, 29 September 1839, as Reported by James Mulholland, p. 13, The Joseph Smith Papers.

Peter Preached Repentance & Baptism to Prevent Eternal Judgement — Times & Seasons (May 16, 1841)

The speaker then referred them to the 6th chap. of Heb. 1. and 2. verses, “not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works &c., but of the doctrines of baptism, laying on of hands, the resurrection and eternal judgment &c.” The doctrine of eternal judgment was perfectly understood by the apostle, is evident from several passages of scripture. Peter preached repentance and baptism for the remission of sins to the Jews, who had been led to acts of violence and blood, by their leaders, but to the Rulers he said, “I would that through ignorance ye did it, as did also those ye ruled.”— Repent, therefore, and be converted that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing (redemption) shall come from the presence of the Lord, for he shall send Jesus Christ, who before was preached unto you &c.” The time of redemption here had reference to the time, when Christ should come; then and not till then would their sins be blotted out.

Discourse, 16 May 1841, as Published in Times and Seasons, p. 430, The Joseph Smith Papers; italics in original.
