The Book of Mormon is clear that in general God has covenanted America to those who will be led here out of other countries because of their righteousness. There is a covenant on this land which any nation that possesses the land has an obligation to abide. This covenant can be best understood in its prophetic history. The foundations of America hold the key to the former success of this nation and the hope of its continuation.

“It is a part of my religious belief that America is a land choice above all others, that we are not just another of the family of nations, but that we have been singled out to perform a divine mission for liberty-loving people everywhere. Those who founded this republic were wise men raised up by our Father in heaven to perform that very task, and the Constitution of this land was inspired by God. We have a divine duty — even a destiny — to preserve that Constitution from destruction and hold it aloft to the world.” 1

Book of Mormon Prophecies

 2 Nephi 1:5

“Yea, the Lord hath covenanted this land unto [the Nephites] . . . and also all those who should be led out of other countries by the hand of the Lord.”

1 Nephi 2:20

And inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper, and shall be led to a land of promise; yea, even a land which I have prepared for you; yea, a land which is choice above all other lands.

American Covenant and Israel

Timothy Ballard in his book “The Covenant: One Nation Under God –  America’s Sacred & Immutable Connection With Ancient Israel” discusses America’s fulfillment of Biblical prophecy and the connection between the colonists, founders and citizens today and the Israelites.

“In his new book from Legends Library Press, author Timothy Ballard answers HOW and WHY the founding of America literally fulfills ancient biblical prophecy. Why did Christopher Columbus assert that he was “guided by an angel” at the moments of greatest distress? What prompted the original colonists to embrace the notion that the land of America was “New Israel” to them? What power urged Washington and his rag-tag army to successfully go against the greatest military power in the known world? What brought about the terrible national crisis that left our nation grieving, humbled and repentant after the desolation of Civil War?

What is the secret behind the nation’s unsurpassed record of prosperity, protection and liberty? What are the responsibilities and consequences incumbent upon a people so blessed? The answer to these, and many other questions relating to our country’s real national treasure are found in the pages of THE COVENANT.

Ballard’s book reveals a new interpretation of American history that has never been articulated in this way before. THE COVENANT: America’s Sacred and Immutable Connection to Ancient Israel is an extraordinary work bringing to light the profound connection between America and the Promises made to the ancient House of Israel.

To be clear, this book is not about America’s ties to the Jewish State formed by U.N. edict in 1948 called “Israel” but rather, the text hearkens back to the period of 720 B.C. to the Northern Kingdom of ancient Israel who with her Ten Tribes were scattered by the Assyrians into the “North” land of Western Europe, Great Britain and Scandinavia, who inherited by virtue of birth and bloodline, the right to invoke “the Promises made to the Fathers.”

Except for a very few cases, every freedom-loving patriot in modern times (regardless of his birth nation) has already tasted of the blessings which flow from the “just and holy principles” upon which America was founded. Could it be that America was designed to be much more than simply another political entity among many?  Could it be that her founders understood and endeavored to teach the rising generations exactly what it would take to preserve those blessings forever?

As a nation we have both honored and breached the Covenant at various times in our history and have been blessed or suffered as a result, this book is written to leave all without excuse. We have within our grasp the freedom to sacred and ominous power to choose to honor or to violate the terms of the Covenant and surely as a nation, we will live or die by the consequences of that choice.” 2

America — can she be the promise land?
    America in the Bible
Notice what King David told the nation of Israel.

I Sam 7:10 Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,

The Israelites were in the land of Canaan when King David wrote this verse. David could not be talking about Canaan; he was talking about a land that was in their future. It is impossible the Promise land to be the land of Canaan. See below the description of the Promise land:

    1) It was a land with vast resources where the hills contained brass and Iron.
2)It is a land that was not inhabited. The land of Canaan does not have these characteristics.

Deu 8:9 A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest DIG BRASS.

Jer 2:4 Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:

Jer 2:6 Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that NO MAN PASSED THROUGH, WHERE NO MAN DWELT?

This could not be the land of ancient land of Canaan or modern Israel. They can’t mine for Brass in the Middle East! It is a land that is not inhabited.

In fact, the Messiah told the Pharisees their responsibilities were to be given to a more HOLY NATION.

Mat 21:43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

The early American settlers understood this. They called themselves the New Israel. They referred to this land as the “City sitting on the shining hill.” George Whitefield called the American colonist the descendants of the lost tribes of Israel. The word “British” means “Covenant man” in Hebrew. “Berith” is the Hebrew word for Covenant. The word “America” comes from the Nordic word meaning “Kingdom of Heaven”. We are a special people with a special purpose. We were supposed to set an example for the rest of the world.
