Monthly “I Am a Latter-day Nephite” Theme!
I will defend marriage, the family, and sacred Priesthood covenants as ordained by God.
Remember: While you absolutely may do every activity suggested if you would like, it is certainly not needed, nor are you limited by the ideas given here. Choose one or more that will work with your learning style, available time, or the group that you are working with. Even if you are an adult, don’t hesitate to choose an activity originally aimed at children—those can be the most fun!
Feel free to run with any other ideas that come to your mind! Allow the Lord to guide you in choosing the best activities for you. The ultimate goal is to engage with the material and become a “doer of the word.”
- If this is your first week here, welcome! Please review our “Welcome & How to Join the Quest” for some helpful information on how to use this resource. You may also want to check out the Embark on the Journey section of Lesson 1 for some activities that will be helpful in getting you started on this quest. In particular, you’ll want a journal, and perhaps the “I Am a Latter-day Nephite” resolution and a fun Book of Mormon reading chart. Just start where you are in the year—don’t feel like you have to backtrack and do every lesson, but grab these helpful tools and you’ll be good to go from here!
- If you choose to download or purchase a designed cardstock version of the “I’m a Latter-day Nephite” resolution, you may want to post it where you will see it every day—on the fridge or your mirror, for example. Ponder on this month’s statement “I will defend marriage, the family, and sacred Priesthood covenants as ordained by God.”
- The 13th Article of Faith states: “…If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.” A civilized society is full of the best of the best in books, art, music, dance, and culture, which, of course, includes scripture. In your journal, consider these questions.
- What does it mean to you to seek after things that are virtuous, lovely, of good report, and praiseworthy?
- When you take an honest inventory of the entertainment you consume, do you feel that it contributes to or detracts from a truly civilized society?

- Gather some friends or family and have a movie night. You just might find a new family favorite!
- Play Book of Mormon charades! Gather friends and family, write several Book of Mormon stories, characters, or events on slips of paper, and divide into teams. Draw a slip of paper and act out what’s on the paper for your team to guess. If your team doesn’t get the correct answer in time, the other team can steal the point. Remember, you can’t talk!
- Play a game of Telephone.
- As a group, sit in a circle or line. The first person will whisper a phrase or sentence into the next person’s ear. The second person then turns and whispers what they heard to the third person, and so on. When the last person has heard the phrase, they say out loud to the group what it is, which is typically not what the first person actually said. You can play this a few times.
- Then, write a phrase or sentence on a piece of paper and play the game again whispering what was written on the paper, but this time, pass the paper from person to person, having each person read what is on the paper before passing on the whispered message.
- Have a discussion on how the phrase stays in tact when spoken from person to person when it is also written and passed along. How does this compare to the Mulekites and the Nephites? Discuss the importance of written scripture in preserving language, culture, and doctrines from generation to generation.
