LDS youth review the book Believing Christ by Steven E. Robinson and discussing true doctrine on salvation, grace, perfection and so forth. The “theme quote” for this discussion was the following statement made by the Prophet Joseph Smith:
“Our heavenly Father is more liberal in His views, and boundless in His mercies and blessings, than we are ready to believe or receive; and, at the same time, is more terrible to the workers of iniquity, more awful in the executions of His punishments, and more ready to detect every false way, than we are apt to suppose Him to be.” 1
Is the Parable of the Bicycle accurate? Why or why not? Will our good and evil deeds be weighed in the balance at the Judgment? Will the Lord reward us according to our merits? Can imperfect people be saved and allowed to dwell in the presence of God? What does it mean to become “one” with God? How is Christ “one” with the Father? How is the truth different than advocated by Believing Christ? When the Lord commands us to be perfect, is that an “impossible commandment”?
