Caleb Warnock is the author of Backyard Winter Gardening. His family is believed to be the last in the U.S. to grow an extensive winter garden, using the methods and vegetable varieties (many near extinction) that were used to feed people for hundreds of years before the invention of the modern grocery store. Caleb’s home is at 5,000 feet, and two days before this video was shot, it had been minus-16 degrees below zero. This is a tour of what Caleb is growing fresh in his backyard garden for winter eating with no artificial heat or electricity. Caleb also grows and sells some of the rarest garden seed in the world, and does extensive winter garden variety trials.
